Briancon town is known for its direct access to Serre Chevalier Valley ski area, through the Prorel Cable-car (Serre Chevalier 1200).
At the end of the 19th century, the military first practised downhill skiing and started making skis. A first skilift was built in Serre-Chevalier in 1941, initiated by the Club Alpin Français (French alpine society) in Briançon.
Since that time, it is very usual in winter-time to meet skiers in Briancon town-center, on their way home after a skiing day!
Better known for its skiing, Briancon hosts a number of other activities during the Summer season.
Denis & Karin, owners of the Chalet Marmottes, are used to welcome mountain sports addicts in their bed and breakfast guesthouse, over the summer and winter. So, why not you!
